Park and Sandy Lodge Thursday 5th June 2003 saw the second MPSL resident’s golf championship take place at Sandy Lodge Golf Club. Last year it was played at Batchworth Park in mid-June, in near monsoon conditions, only six brave people ventured out onto the course that day, which given the fact that the course was actually closed due to the appalling weather was a good turn out, although several sensible people joined us for the dinner afterwards. In sharp contrast this year it was very much a case of sunglasses, hats and factor 20! Sandy Lodge has gone through major building work over the past ten years in both clubhouse and course and this year the course is back to normal, as half the complaints received were that the greens were too fast and the other half were that the greens were too slow it sounds as though conditions were about perfect! The format was three balls starting at 3.00pm. There were representatives of Batchworth Park, Moor Park, Northwood and Sandy Lodge Golf Clubs present so in addition to the prizes for the best overall score and the challenge cup there was also a competition for the best average score of the four clubs represented, unattached golfers were added to the Northwood team as they were the smallest in number. The results were as follows:
There were only two stableford points separating first from third places. A very convivial dinner and prize giving ceremony completed
the evening and everyone departing looked forward to competing in next
year’s competition, which will be held at Moor Park Golf Club in
early June. It is expected that the cost of Dinner and golf will be in
the region of £50 so anyone interested in playing should e-mail
