3rd Moor Park and Sandy Lodge
Residents Association Golf Championship

Thursday 10th June 2004 saw the third MPSL resident’s golf championship take place at Moor Park Golf Club.

We were again blessed with good weather and the high course proved to be a very challenging venue. A record number of twenty golfers took part, this would have been even higher except for a couple of late injuries, a far cry from the six that took part two years ago.

The highlight of the competition undoubtedly being Mark Pearson’s somewhat optimistic long iron second shot into the par 5 ninth, having asked the vacating players if they had seen his ball come near the green, he was told that it was in the hole! I wonder how long it will be before another albatross is scored in the competition!

This year we had prizes for longest drive on the 16th and nearest the pin on the tricky 18th.

The format was four balls starting at 3.00pm. There were representatives of Batchworth Park, Moor Park, Northwood and Sandy Lodge Golf Clubs present so in addition to the prizes for the best overall score and the challenge cup there was also a competition for the best average score of the four clubs represented, unattached golfers were added to the Northwood team as they were the smallest in number.

There was only 0.6 stableford points separating first from second places!

Clive Sladen won the nearest the pin and longest drive.

A very convivial dinner and prize giving ceremony completed the evening. This year several spouses joined us for the dinner. Everyone departing looked forward to competing in next year’s competition, which will be held at Northwood Golf Club on Thursday June 16th 2005. It is expected that the cost of Dinner and golf will be in the region of £60, dinner alone about £30, so anyone interested in playing or just attending the dinner, should e-mail jerry@asquith.com
